SellYourCab wasn't started in a boardroom. It was started on the rank.

Back in 2005, our founders saw a problem that every cab driver already knew about: when it came time to sell, the options were terrible. Generic car buyers didn't understand taxi values. Dealers lowballed on principle. Private sales meant weeks of time-wasters, tyre-kickers, and no-shows. Drivers were routinely losing thousands of pounds because nobody in the market actually specialised in buying taxis.

So we built something different. A buying service run by people who genuinely understand the taxi trade — the vehicles, the market, the licensing, the mileage patterns, the seasonal fluctuations, all of it. We started in London, buying black cabs from hackney carriage drivers in East London and the City. Word spread. Drivers told their mates. Within a few years, we were buying private hire vehicles too — Prius, Vito, everything on the road.

Today, we operate across every major city in the UK. London is still our home, but we buy cabs in Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, and everywhere in between. We've purchased over 2,500 vehicles and paid out more than £12.5 million to drivers. We're not a tech startup pretending to understand cars — we're taxi trade people who happen to have built a very efficient buying operation.

Every valuation we make is based on real, live taxi market data. We know what a TX4 with 350,000 miles is worth because we've bought hundreds of them. We know the difference between a well-maintained fleet Vito and a neglected one. We know that high mileage on a taxi doesn't mean the same thing as high mileage on a family car. That specialist knowledge is why we consistently pay more than the generic buyers.
